Rain in store for Kingston region on strong winds expected, Halloween

Environment Canada has issued two warnings devoting the Kingston area to a prediction of extreme winds and rain.The weather bureau says anywhere from 30 to 60 millimetres of rain is expected to fall in the area over Halloween on Thursday and into Friday.

The warning also notes that winds are expected overnight on Oct. 31 and into Friday morning.Winds near 90 kilometres per hour are expected to begin overnight, with stronger gusts closer to 110 kilometres per hour potential along the Lake Ontario shore.

On Friday morning, winds will continue to be powerful but are meant to weaken to approximately 70 to 80 kilometres per hour.The rain and wind are expected to continue into Friday but will subside during the day.

For those wondering whether trick-or-treating might be affected, Mayor Bryan Paterson said there aren’t any plans to proceed Halloween festivities into the following day.The Cataraqui Centre also says it will not be handing out candy on Halloween evening.
